Meet the Pitmaster: Matthew Harper

PA Boys BBQ was founded by Matthew Harper, a man whose journey is as bold as the flavors he smokes.

After being medically retired from the U.S. Army in 2016, Matt transitioned into the trades, excelling as an HVAC technician before moving into the elevator industry. Through hard work and dedication, he quickly climbed the ranks from helper to Lead Technician in just six months.

But in a life-changing moment, Matt survived a 160-foot fall down an elevator shaft after a catastrophic safety failure. Though the accident left him with severe injuries and required 10 surgeries, it didn’t break his spirit.

Today, Matt is not only walking and thriving—he’s perfecting the craft of slow-smoked BBQ for the community he loves. His passion for authentic, no-shortcuts barbecue is what drives PA Boys BBQ, and he’s just getting started.

While he dreams of one day running his own ranch, for now, he’s serving up damn good BBQ with a side of resilience, hard work, and heart.
